In just three hours, kids ages 10 – 13 can learn to turn their own ballpoint pen on a lathe! We start by learning safety procedures and then move right into turning the pre-cut pen blanks (kids get their choice of cherry or maple). When the pen is shaped, the students learn how to properly sand and finish the pen parts. Finally, we use a pen assembly kit to put it all together and voila!
We have safety helmets and ear protection, but you can provide your own if you like.
Sometimes pen blanks break during the turning process; if this happens, we’ll just start over. Every student is guaranteed to walk away with his or her own wooden pen.
Class size limited to 5.
